Rotary Club of Looe Valley Internet Group
The Club has formed a ‘Rotary Club of Looe Valley Internet Group’. This is an
opportunity to expand personal fellowship opportunities, and can include wives and other family members if so desired.
The
benefits of the group are quite considerable - and not simply social; there
is tremendous scope for the group to become a powerful management tool.
There is almost limitless capacity to pass club notices such as minutes of
meetings, at minimum cost and effort, simply by sending a Group Copy to all
members in one single post. It is an immediate way to inform members of
changes to arrangements to forthcoming events, and to keep members informed
about other members’ welfare. There is also an option to exchange personal
mail; there is a 'chat room' where all members can join in live discussions
on-line - which could be used for impromptu on-line live meetings of Club
Council if required.
As a
group member, you can:
Post messages to the group by email -- and stay in touch with your group
from anywhere, without having to log into the Web.
Opt to receive individual messages, a daily or weekly
digest, or read mail at the website only.
Search the message archive in your group by keyword.
Create and maintain databases to store information.
Choose from thousands more groups that fit your interests.
Choose from more descriptive search results to help you locate the right
group for your needs.
Additionally, group owners and moderators (known as founders on Yahoo!
Clubs) can:
Moderate members to decide who is allowed to join your group
Turn certain features on and off whenever you like
Offer members custom levels of access to group features
Add HTML to your Group Description (known as the Founder's Message in Yahoo!
Clubs)
There
is a considerable amount of storage space where club files may be stored,
and where Club Members may access such club documents as: Club Bye-laws, The
Rotary Constitution, The Manual of Procedure, Membership Lists, and Minutes
of Meetings etc. It might be a nice idea to have a club photograph album on
the site, which is easily accommodated.
The
system is quite easy to use once members have signed up, and security is
assured, this being a closed 'members only group' with a group moderator.

Yahoo" and in the next page click on "Sign up now", then follow the
instructions.
The
Internet Group is obviously only available to those members with access to a
personal computer, but the group can be accessed from any PC. All that is
required is that members must sign in to access the site. Email can be sent
to any email account and all club members are able to obtain a web based
email account such as Microsoft Hotmail. All club members who do not have
email addresses, may use the Club address - when all such communication will
be forwarded to the Webmaster. The address for this facility is:
name@looevalleyrotary.org
where ‘name’ can be any name the members choose subject only to
the Webmaster being
able to identify who it is intended for!! ;o)) He will pass all messages to
the members concerned, but please be aware that this cannot be suitable for
messages of a personal nature - you know what a gossip he
is!! ;o))
The Group is supported by the Club's Website at:
www.looevalleyrotary.org
which is a comprehensive site, always kept up to date with current events,
news, officers, committees, club programme and duty rosters. Your advice on
errors, omissions and items for inclusion would be appreciated. It would be
nice if we had a few photographs on the site, but the
Webmaster is reluctant to include them without your permission. It
would also be helpful if Committee Chairman would provide their items for inclusion.
It is intended to subscribe all
members with email addresses, to membership of the Club Internet
Group, unless they indicate they do not wish to
be subscribed.
This
is the age of the computer and we either try and keep up, or we get left
behind! These are exciting developments with much more to come.
